AMT Code of Conduct Released

On July 17, 2009 the Aviation Code of Conduct Permanent Board released the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Model Code of Conduct, a structured series of recommendations aimed at improving safety, professionalism and growth in the aviation maintenance field. The model code of conduct was written by an editorial board of representatives from the industry and was honed using input from all sectors of the maintenance community.

The final recommendations are divided into seven sections: General Responsibilities of AMTs, Third-party Safety, Training and Proficiency, Security, Environmental Issues, Use of Technology, and Advancement and Promotion of Aviation Maintenance. Each section includes a series of principles as well as recommended practices to best achieve set goals.

The model code is not mandatory, but merely reflects suggested practices to improve "safety, citizenship, and professionalism" for all AMTs.
